Lampwork beads by Jyothi

Assortment of flower, disc and round beads
Most of us, Jewelry makers start by stringing beads into necklaces and bracelets  and only when we get a good hang of it we do move to simple and then advanced wire work or metal work. We then make it personal by incorporating our own little touches even in our stringing – we use our own claps, we loop the beads sometimes, we knot them using leather, yarn or fabric. But how often do we think of those beautiful beads that we use and the talented people who made them? Though glass industry really thrives in India I had never met a beadmaker until recently. So as the first real post for this year (2013) today I am going to introduce to you to her and her fabulous beads.
Jyothi from Pune, a chemistry graduate who worked as a lab assistant for a glass bottle making company after a PG in Glass technology. She now makes beautiful beads and here is a little Tete’-a-tete’ with her.
Hi Jyothi, its wonderful to have you here. Individual beadmakers are a rare breed now, what inspired you to get into beadmaking? and what is that you love about it?
I was always into crafts-  knitting , crochet etc  so I  wanted to do some thing creative. This lead me to lampwork/flame work and to bead making finally.I love bead making because its challenges me every day, even with routine repetitive beads . The glass rod melts and u just have a very short time to shape the bead/article.

What inspires you? any role models?
Lampwork and flame work books have been my main gurus and American bead artists are the best. I have been lucky to have taken classes at Corning with Chris Buzzini a paper weight artist and Corina Tettinger a bead artist also from the USA is my online guru( I have her book and I try to do the beads on her website) She is fine with it as long as we make the beads better than her as she states in her book.I can spend hrs just browsing thru her book and her website. There are a lot more bead artists – their colors and tools, and their unique style fascinates me.
I love the learning process and I feel that I am still a student with a lot more to learn.
Thats Fantastic isnt it guys?? Being a fabulous lady She sent me a generous sample of her beads to try and here is what I made from them
A Bridal set based on Hawaiian and Beach weddings – complete with dainty blooms in blue, violet and white. I just adore those trumpet flowers that I had to make them into earrings and a bracelet below. The whole thing is so light you feel as though you are wearing floral jewelry on your self. 😀
she had also sent me these fabulous disc beads – I made a necklace – Fiery disc necklace from them and a tutorial will follow in the next post.
Lamp work beads and wire work somehow go hand in hand and these beautiful round beads were perfect for this colored coiled wire necklace.

The beads I have showcased here are only a tiny bit of Jyothi’s work…email her bundisavant@hotmail(dot)com  to get details on her stock and buy from her

Cheers
