DIY Wire wrapped earrings for Diwali

DIY Wire wrapped earrings

Firstly Let me wish all of you a very very Happy Diwali – Diwali or Deepavali – means a parade of lighted lamps or light of lamps where light stands for all that is good in life like knowledge, wealth, happiness, goodness and prosperity. I hope and pray that this coming year be filled with goodness, prosperity and happiness for all of you.
I bought a blue, black and yellow anarkali kurta-churidhar for myself this Diwali and I decided to make a last minute accessory to go with it. Here is the tutorial of how I made my 10 minute  DIY Wire wrapped earrings. I think its a perfect design – as its quick to make, easy to wear and suits almost all face shapes and dresses.

 DIY Wire wrapped earrings

Materials:
1. 16g brass wire – 6″
2. 30g gold artistic wire – 24″
3. Glass briolettes – 2
4. normal gold beads/crimp covers
5. ear hooks – 1 pair
Tools
a. Round nose/bail pliers
b. wire cutters + file
c. Mandrel
d. Hammer + bench plate (optional)

Method:

1. cut 2 pieces of 3″of 16g brass wire and file the edges. With the round nose pliers, make normal loops on either side of the wire. Repeat

2.Curve the wire into a circle on a mandrel (I used my ring mandrel)
3. Hammer it on a bench plate (this step is totally optional)
4. Cut 2 pieces of 12″ artistic wire (you could even used 28g brass wire) but I wanted a light weight earrings. thread on your glass briolette (or any gemstone) on the wire and start wrapping on the 16g base at the center. My briolette had large holes so I had to bring back the wire through the holes and cross wrap to keep it straight.

5. As you wrap, keep adding the gold beads or crimp covers on either side. (I like asymmetrical designs so I have 5 beads on one side and four on the other, you can make it symmetrical)
6. Connect the loops by wrapping the wire around them (4-5 times). This part might be slightly tricky, I hold both loops with a crimp pliers in my non dominant hand press it down  (This gives me a better hold) while I wrap the loops together with remaining wire.
7. You can either cut off the remaining wire or bring it down and wrap around the brio like I did. Add ear hooks. Repeat for other earring and its done.

I whipped up my DIY Wire wrapped earrings in about 20mins, including  set up and photography time, so it shouldn’t take more than 10 mins to actually make them. so if you have a party to get to and don’t have great earrings to go with your dress, you can make a pair like this easily. I hope you have fun making it.

I hope you Find it Interesting

Happy Diwali!!
Cheers
