Pantone color of the year – Greenery

greenery earrings

Hello folks, welcome to my blog once again and TGIF! Though I was horribly sick most of the week (again),  I was so looking forward to write this post as its about my favourite color – Green.  By now you must be aware of the Pantone color of the year 2017 is Greenery which for all purposes is a light to mid tone green. Once this announcement was made, I suddenly, felt very fashionable as most of my house is painted this very green. Its another story that I chose the color originally  eight years ago as I couldn’t bear to live in a house that had pink, blue, yellow or orange walls. 😀

According to Pantone “Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.” As per color psychology green signifies life, prosperity and new beginnings. From an interior design perspective, Green walls soothe your mind and extend a calming influence which I know from experience. Being surrounded by green also helps your eyes focus better and you are able to distinguish between colors, techniques, textures with ease.  Greenery offers clarity of thought, a better organisation and extends a positive affirmation about all good things in life.

There is a popular misconception or a fashion myth that green makes one look fat. But like most myths, this is unsubstantiated for it depends on how you style it. I have on many occasions worn ‘green on green’ ensembles by playing with textures and fabrics. In those instances, I have looked thinner than when I would wear black . In fact, green is my wardrobe staple and one of my all time favourite colors.  But green is one of the hardest colors to sell – most menswear brands do no make green shirts also most fashion magazines will not showcase green on their covers unless that particular issue’s theme is eco fashion, nature or Greenery. But Green pairs well with most colors – it works with red, pink, magenta, muted orange, mustard, lemon yellow, offwhite, brown, blue, gray and even black. There are a plenty of gemstones in green and sixteen of them were listed in my posts from 2014 in the Gemstones in color series.

We’re All Ears :: January Reveal :: Greenery

This month, Erin Challenged us to create earrings based on the color “Greenery” for the We’re all ears challenge. I finished two earrings and the third one is in proceed (so no picture). I started by making the two strand necklace seen in the above picture which is a tutorial for a bead site as I get stuck when I try to make just the earrings.

When I think of the word greenery two images (of places) come to my mind. One is  the image I would see at the gates of my childhood Township home with plants and trees (and leaves) in varying tints, tones and shades of green and that of a garden that I used to draw as a child – green plants and shrubs with lots of small colors flowers.

I call the first pair as greenery earrings though it is not monochromatic. It is representative of the garden with beautiful colorful flowers blooming with life, and symbolic of health and happiness. It was a positive affirmation for me this week that I would get through the pain and suffering I was going through. I used frayed sari ribbon (silk bits) for the first time in this pair after seeing it being used in many designs by various artists. However, the Indian in me hates all the fraying and the mess it creates. I am afraid that it will fray completely even before I have a chance to wear it.

Truth be told I was not interested in creating earrings in green, for I already own so many of them ( I can count 11 pairs at the moment but I know there are more). So while I was rummaging in my closet I chanced upon a necklace, which was originally a bracelet eons back. The links had gone dull but the beads called out to me, so I created the second pair to match my idea of a green home.

Those are my two pairs of  earrings in green and I am looking to make another one to match the necklace. See, I told you, when it comes to green,  I cannot really stop myself 🙂

Lovely earrings. I am always hesitant or reluctant to use fabrics in my jewelry for the very reason you gave – fraying. I do love the look of it though. It brings a softness to the design.

Thanks Tammy, I love using fabrics so I guess I’ll go back to my old method of hemming them shut. If might look bulky but atleast won’t fray

I had no idea green was so unpopular in the fashion world. I think I look great in green so I tend to buy green! You must love green if you have so many pairs of green earrings. I am glad you decided to add these pretty pairs to your collection.

yes it is, green is the least sold color in apparel especially bright green. but maybe Pan tone selecting greeneery could change how the fashion industry works

I love nature and greenery elates my soul, but when I first heard about Pantone’s choice I wasn’t too excited about it. I somehow expected another color. When it comes to fashion and jewelry I rarely wear green, but as you said above – it works well with almost all the colors so I will certainly be using it in creating more of my jewelry.

Yes, not many are excited by the greenery colors. But I think sage green and kale green would amalgamate well with your crochet pieces which people can accessorise their greenery garments with , if they so desire.

Green and red are my favorite colors! I love the whimsy of the sari ribbon earrings but have the same concerns about using textiles. The light-green beads in the second pair make it look so happy!

The sari ribbon earrings are whimsical (it’s the ribbon, I guess) but I, too, have the same concerns as you do when using textiles. I love the light green colored beads in the second pair – so happy looking!

They are bits of silk fabric, so yes a ribbon (after all a ribbon is a length of fabric !)

Sorry I’m so late hopping! Cute earrings! I totally understand what you mean about using the sari silk… I’ve used it in necklaces (doubled over for added strength) but I also worry about the fray with earrings. Maybe if they were just for me. That being said, I love the pop of bright color the ribbon gives that first pair!

Oh, and here I thought I was the only one who worried about the frayed ends. I usually hem or seal the edges when it comes to necklaces or wrap the fabrics with wire or thread to keep it in place
