Crystal tassel necklace – A Refashion project

Crystal tassel necklace
I have been looking at tassel necklaces for some time and yesterday I finally decided thats it time I had one of those.
When I started out I wanted to make a tassel using thin gold chain with a nice bead & bead cap and attach it to a bold chain, so that my mom can wear it for Diwali. But since I couldnt find the chain stash, I got irritated and went looking for old stuff that I could repair instead.

It was then I chanced this pair of crystal chandelier earrings which I bought a few years back. Stones were missing from both earrings and I have already repaired them a few times in the past.

Bugged, I took all the pieces apart and looped them together in such a way that I could make one tassel with all stones intact. I then removed the ear hooks and slightly polished the stones to get rid off any dirt.

Then I added the re constructed tassel to one end of a thick (masculine chain – one that I got from work and never have worn in the last 3 years!). But the thought of closing the chain with a lobster clasp that was already on the chain disturbed me. Anyway the clasp broke as I tried removing it but hey no worries, I picked out a long toggle (I happened to have a just a couple of those) and tried it with my earring – it fit like a glove.

So I attached the toggle bar on the other side with a jump ring and ta da..!!!! it was done and now looks quiet lovely. I like the combination of both masculine and feminine elements in it – something that on the fashion radar and will soon be up everywhere.

I realise that this is more of an informal post that a tutorial – so for those waiting formal instructions –Here is the Formal DIY

A nice'neasy project Divya. I have made some great stuff with old earrings – and had so much fun with the projects, I bought a pair of earrings and made two necklaces using them as focals. A great way to reuse and recycle
