Pic of the month – Its carnival time

March was a crazy month and I was (still am) so tied up with all sorts of deadlines. From completing portions in college, to settings questions papers, evaluating assignments, creating for an exhibition, planning workshop, attending weddings and making gifts, it been really hectic.
But, because I live in Thiruvanmiyur, Lord Marundeeshwar provides me with a much needed break – a 10 day temple festival (march 18-28th this year), with culminates in a Thaer – a temple car festival and a boat festival. During the festival Lord Shiva and Parvati adorned in their finest, parade around in the four streets around the temple, literally coming home to bless us. This period is filled with fireworks, late night street performances, concerts by local bands and a carnival all celebrating the marriage of the God and Goddess on Thiruadipooram.
The best part is that, it all takes place in the very street I live, so baring one or two noisy off key orchestras, and shocking atom bomb firecrackers, it is a lot of fun.

Its Carnival time

so coming to this month’s Pic of the month, its no surprise that there are multiple pics, of the carnival – mainly the flea market where one could get a 5 pairs of earrings or a kids accessory kit or a purse or a huge packet of chips for $1.  I love this festival for its one of those rare occasions when Chennai, lives as good old madras.
I recently upgraded to a so called smart phone, Sony Xperia U (I know very late!) and this was also my outing to test the camera at night. I realise that the pics arent great in quality, but what I lose there I think I made up for it in spirit. so sit back and enjoy, Its Carnival time!!

When I saw little toys, fancy lights and all sorts of knick knacks, I kept thinking of Michelle (Mich L. in L.A.) a fellow blogger, master thrifter and designer extraordinaire and how she makes beautiful jewelry out of these completely unpredictable everyday things and wished she was there. Then I tried seeing things from her perspective so that I could also make stuff from the things I found. After 10 minutes I gave up, for after all it was my break and just decided to have fun – generally shopping with my mom, taking pics with my phone and singing along loudly to tamil dappaankuthu songs.

I was really touched by  the hawkers – their hardwork – selling all day long just to make a profit of a few hundreds and determination that kept them focused.  I thought – If they could do it, why not me? Needless to say I came back home and drove headlong into work fully recharged.

I hope you find it interesting
cheers
