Wanderlust earrings

http://jewelsofsayuri.com/

Wishing you all a happy Easter weekend. We have a long week(end) off where I live owing to two more public holidays so I am doing what I do best – vacationing. Usually, I travel in an hectic  manner i.e I like incorporating a lot into my itinerary when I travel. However, this time, I wanted it to be more relaxing. Hence a staycation coupled with a short day trips, spa, restaurants and the like. Check out my Jewelsofsayuri Instagram feed and stories to see my recent travel pictures. So as you can imagine, I did not make any Wanderlust earrings for this post. Rather, I will be showing three travel themed travel earrings that I made in the last few months. You might have seen two of them on my social media channels before. But here are the stories behind them.

We’re All Ears :: April Inspiration :: Wanderlust

For April, Ms. Erin has invited us to showcase Travel themed earrings. They could be inspired by places we have visited, the actual travel or even the places we want to travel to. I have two based on my recent travel and one hinting to places that are on my wish list.

Tiles of Angkor Earrings
Earrings not for sale. I just have one more set of tiles set which is reserved for my cousin.

Tiles of Angkor Earrings

I made Angkor Earrings in December 2018 to wear for a presentation at a research conference. I needed a piece that was elegant, had flair that represented me at a forum. The tiles from Claycult Cambodia and Czech flower beads were a match made in heaven. Even though its long and looks heavy, it is quite wearable and I have worn it many times since. Of all the places that I have visited so far, Siem Reap, Cambodia is by far the best. I love the friendly people, the gorgeous Angkor temples and the fabulous $5 massages. It is a place that I would love to visit again. These tiles showcase the spacer sculpture commonly found in stone pillars in Temples across Tamil Nadu in India and in extension, Angkor as these temples are inspired by Tamil aesthetics.

Let’s Travel

This second pair is a gift that I made for my friend when she turned 40 a couple of weeks back. She is an art historian, is well travelled and is a collector. So I wanted to make something from scratch for her. When my many attempt at forging and soldering metal failed, I quickly whipped up these earrings. I was supposed to meet her the next day in Bangalore and I made the pair minutes before I left home to catch my flight. Hence the bad tubelight+cellphone picture. I was not satisfied with them, but she loved them and wore them the next day. The earrings are eclectic and a little bit like her. The stud is Korean Sterling silver, the beads are Czech (bead swap 219), and the flowers are from Claycult Cambodia picked up during my travel there.

Wanderlust earrings

Last but not the least, is this pair of charm earrings. I picked up these New pence charms end of last year locally and made the earrings in a jiffy. I wear them a lot particularly when I travel as I own a lot of blue clothes, and this pair goes well with a lot of styles. Strangely, whenever I wear them, someone or other asks me if I collected the coins in UK/Europe. The charms are fake but the wanderlust to visit Europe is real. Can I make it happen this year is a question that I have been asking myself for the last 3-4 years.

When I wrote the I dream of Travel post in 2016, little did I know that it would signal the universe to make my travel wishes come true. Since then I have travelled to Arani, Badrinath, Belur, Coorg, Pulicat, Varkala along with temple trips around Kancheepuram, Kumbakonam, Pondicherry in India. This is not including the numerous work related travel trips within India.  I have visited USA, Siem Reap, and Kuala Lumpur outside India. Europe tour is pending. Will it happen in 2019? I wish; but only time will tell.

None of the earrings are available for sale. This is a blog hop. Find the participant list here

I hope you found it interesting
Cheers

I have always had the wanderlust, but not the means nor the ability to travel to all these exotic (to me!) places. India has always been on my bucket list. I love the textures and the colors and the vibrancy of what I have seen of that country. I love those ceramic pieces. Your friend is awfully lucky to have you to make her something so special! Thanks for joining me in the We’re All Ears challenge! Enjoy the day! Erin

Thank you for this opportunity Ms. Erin. Now that your daughter is off to college, please do try to come to India. tickets are cheap if you book 6 months in advance and even $1 will get you a simple meal

I think the pair you made for your friend is my favorite… love those flower charms! Lots of fun stuff here inspired by travel. My husband and I are headed to Great Britain this summer with another couple (wish us luck driving on the “wrong” side of the road!)… I hope you can make your European travel dreams a reality soon.
